My first encounter with Shaydee was his feature on EME All Stars’ ‘Empire Mates State of Mind’ which to me remains one of the best compilation albums in Nigeria yet. Then I heard him take a verse on Banky W’s ‘Say’. I remember putting the song on repeat because of this dude’s excellent delivery. I was convinved he had much to offer the industry. His latest, ‘Carry Big Load’ reflects his promise yet again.
In the Drey Beatz produced release, Shaydee retains his sonority and vocal dexterity but sounds too much like Wander Coal. Someone who’s not familiar with Shaydee could assume easily that ‘Carry Big Load’ is owned by Wande Coal.
On the plus side, the production appears somewhere between dancehall and the regular Tungba beats we hear everyday. Shaydee does well to leave no dull moment on the song. He offers nice sounding phrases that relate with the subject matter, the sexual appeal of a particular lady’s big bumbum. So, just as the clichés he renders would appeal to many, the entire song should meet popular demand.
