Music Review: Tomi Thomas Says ‘Not My Bae’ and Features Santi

Tomi Thomas is one of the 4-man music group, L.O.S (Loud on Sound) that emerged from nowhere some time back. You’d def recall there very popular song ‘Bad Guy P’ that did so well Banky W and MI were persuaded to jump on its remix. Perhaps because the L.O.S project wasn’t quite going as expected, Tomi dropped a solo EP last year (I think) and just released ‘Not Ma Bae’, a bold R&B tune.

There’s so much sadness in this song, thematically and in terms of its melody. I’m immediately reminded of the Weeknd’s perpetual gloom by this piece of work. I also can imagine an element of How to Dress Well in it. Translation: As much as I appreciate the talent of Tomi and courage to tag along where his musical chi leads, I’d say ‘Not Ma Bae’ is quite plastic.

He features Santi on the track and got the BankyOnDBeatz as producer. Like Tomi’s verses, the instrumental isn’t conventional. Nevertheless, both guys must have an amazing understanding of soft rock and R&B to have been able to put this together. It’s a song I like but not what many, around this part of the world though, would appreciate.
