Ogbeni Lanre bounced backed after a hiatus with a bang. First he immediately recorded a widely accepted single ‘King Kong’ and did an equally popular remix of the song that featured four rappers which included Phyno and Reminisce. He also did a second remix with Sarkodie as guest. Perhaps his most significant buzz yet after his come back was his 2-hour freestyle on Rhythm FM’s Freestyle Fury. ‘Medicinal’ is a new one, though departing from the commercial ideas he normally sells.
I’d call Vector’s ‘Medicinal’ church meets the street. Verse One is a letter to God on his personal travails after venturing into music. Verse two consciously talks about problems faced by the leaders and the followers in this world of ours.
You know what to expect from Ogbeni Lanre whenever he spits. You get good prose, wisecracks, intelligent wordplay and crazy punchlines at the right moment. The two 16 to18-bar verses in ‘Medicinal’ are packed with all that ish. I personally think Vector is underrated. By that I mean he should be rated the best rapper in Nigeria.
