This piece is yet another group effort by the Mavin Records crew. As customary with anything Don Jazzy touches, ‘Jantamata’ will most likely become a hit. I have come to theorize that the super producer is yet have a song which after getting necessary promotions isn’t widely accepted. I categorise his creations into big hits, small hits. For instance, Reekado Banks’ ‘Katapult’ is a small hit while Korede Bello’s ‘Godwin’ is viral stuff, a big hit. Similarly, ‘Dorobuchi’ was so big it went viral while ‘Adaobi’ didn’t do that well but remains a hit in a small way.
‘Jantamata’ appears to be in the same league as ‘Adaobi’. Typically, Don Jazzy creates a melodic tune on which each of his artistes drops a verse. Although Dr SID and D’Prince merely follow the rhythm as demanded, D’ija and Korede Bello brought some flair along with their verses. Tiwa Savage and Reekado Banks stay in-between. ‘Jantamata’ is delightful nonsense that should be well accepted but sounds too deliberate. If you are a student or had once been one, the song would remind you of Kegite Club’s traditional medleys and humorous compositions. It’s hard to know for sure but I doubt if ‘Jantamata’ can excel with the fans like ‘Dorobuchi’.
